End-Of-Life Services

A Peaceful Farewell In The Comfort Of Home

Animal Ally Mobile Vet provides gentle, dignified in-home euthanasia services. We understand that this is one of the most difficult decisions you’ll ever make, and we’re honored to help you provide a peaceful, loving farewell in the familiar surroundings of home.

Important Service Note: At-home euthanasia services are available to established patients of Animal Ally Mobile Vet. For families who are not current clients, we’re happy to provide referrals to other trusted mobile euthanasia services.  Same-day or emergency euthanasia appointments are rarely available. For families who need immediate assistance that we cannot provide, we can recommend other trusted mobile euthanasia services in our area.

Considerations For Making This Difficult Decision

The decision about euthanasia can feel overwhelming and scary. You love your pet deeply and want to ensure you're making the right choice at the right time. There's no perfect formula, but several factors can guide your decision-making process.

The most important consideration is your pet’s current comfort and well-being. If your pet is experiencing pain, difficulty breathing, or other suffering with little hope of meaningful improvement, the timing may be more urgent. There are many beneficial quality of life scales available to take online.

Unlike humans, pets experience life moment by moment. They don’t anticipate future relief or mark special occasions. Consider how your pet feels right now, today, rather than hoping for improvement that may never come.

Consider your pet’s age and the realistic likelihood of regaining good quality of life for a meaningful period. Sometimes the most loving gift we can give is preventing prolonged suffering or ending during a crisis.

Reflect on past experiences with pet loss or end-of-life care. What did you learn that might inform this decision? Each situation is unique, but previous experiences can provide valuable perspective.

Before making your final decision, ensure you’ve considered all treatment possibilities, support resources, and alternatives. Sometimes a thorough consultation can reveal options you hadn’t considered.

Many pet parents hope their companion will pass peacefully in their sleep, but this outcome is unfortunately rare. When it does occur, it’s often unexpected and may not be the peaceful experience we hope for. Euthanasia typically provides a more controlled, peaceful passing than natural death from illness.

The At-Home Euthanasia Process

Dr. Posey will have all the necessary supplies to perform the procedure with her. We will spend time with introductions, allowing your family and pet to feel comfortable and unrushed. We will discuss any specific goals you have for your pet or family during this important event as well as any specific concerns or questions you have. We will go over the process in detail before proceeding.

We will have an authorization form for you to complete if you have not completed it prior to the visit.  Payment is also taken prior to the procedure once we arrive. If you prefer to pay or complete the form prior to the appointment, reach out by email and we will gladly accommodate this.

The first part of the process involves administering a sedative injection under the skin or in a muscle. This injection ensures your pet is comfortable and anxiety-free. This injection is quick and many pets do not notice it as it is similar to receiving a vaccination. If there is any discomfort from the needle, it is brief. The sedative puts the pet into a state of relaxation and relief from pain. This typically takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes to effect.

When your pet is relaxed and everyone is ready, we will shave a small area over a vein and give the euthanasia medication into the vein. Family can stay close during this process, which is peaceful and takes only a few minutes or less once the medication is in the vein. Once all of the medication has been administered, Dr. Posey will listen to the heart to confirm when the pet has passed, informing the family shortly afterwards.

Our team can give your family privacy for final goodbyes or to let other pets in the house come and see the pet prior to the next step. Once you are ready we will assist with memorial items and transportation. If you are keeping your pet at home we can politely excuse ourselves so your family can focus on your pet.

We can provide:

    • Ink paw print impressions
    • Clippings of your pet’s fur

Home Burial

If you choose to bury your pet on your property, please verify local regulations and permit requirements before making arrangements. We cannot assist with burial preparations but can assist you in wrapping your pet in a special blanket or organic material. If you have any questions regarding the recommendations of burial please reach out.

Personal Transportation

Families may prefer to transport their pet to a crematorium of their choice themselves. This is scheduled separately from Animal Ally. If you need recommendations for this kind of service, we may be able to provide a few. We are happy to help move your pet to your vehicle with dignity and care.

Cremation Services

We partner with Family Animal Services for cremation options. We will either transport your pet ourselves to the crematorium or we will coordinate for Family Animal Services to arrive to help with transportation of the pet themselves after the pet has passed. Cremation options include communal cremation, in which ashes are not returned to you, or individual cremation with ashes returned in an urn.
